As BEV keeps dropping more and more channels to the Nagra 3 encryption, we are getting an enormous number of requests from members wishing to move their dishes from BEV to a DN satellite.

At the moment, and this is purely speculative, there may be a possibility to receive DN programming on your current receiver for perhaps a further 3 to 4 months. There is little point to discuss this further as nobody can give a firm answer to this question.

Moving your dish to DN 110 and/or DN 119:

DN 110 - Echo 10,11 DN 119 - Echo 7
For those of you currently watching BEV, you may be normally using a single dish setup which may have a single or twin lnb mounted for BEV 82 and/or 91.

Before moving your dish, you should have some insight to what is available on DN 110 and 119. These satellites contain programming fairly similar in nature to what you would find on BEV 91. There are approximatelty 375 to 400 channels available on DN 110 and approximately 275 channels available on 119. The number of channels will vary depending on your locale. If you wish to find out more information on the exact channel lineups per satellite, then go to xxx.lyngsat.com, select Packages for America and you can investigate further.

Moving your dish should be fairly easy but it is advisable that you mark your current dish positioning (on all moving parts) with a black marker so that it will be a fairly easy move to return to BEV if you wish to do so in the future.

All movement will be a turn to the west. From BEV 91..approximately 19 degrees westward to DN 110 and a further 9 degrees west to get to DN 119.

Adjustments to azimuth, elevation and skew are going to vary from one part of the country to the next, so there are no fixed adjustments that fits everyones requirements.

But...you can get fairly precise information for your area by going to
xxx. dishpointer.com, entering your address and selecting the satellites you wish to adjust to. You will see a birdseye view of your rooftop and a line indicator pointing in the direction of the satellite you have chosen. It will also give you information on azimuth (degrees of turning from east to west), the elevation and the skew requirement if you are trying to tune to both 110 and 119. If you have only one lnb then you need not be concerned about a skew adjustment. Elevation should always be your first adjustment then turn your dish westward to the satellite position you have selected.

You might find that 'satcalculator' is easier for skew measurements and 'dishpointer' good for the visuals from your dwelling. I strongly suggest you check with both.

Dish size:

This can be a very critical issue to many Canadian testers.

For those who are living close to the American border, in most cases your current BEV dish (say 20'') will work well to get both 110 and 119. But as you move northward you will find a noticeable drop-off in signal (Quality)...specially on 119. To find out what dish size may be best suited for your specific area, you will find a comprehensive dish size recommendation list per satellite at dishpointer.com. If you are still uncertain what size you need, then best to post your locale and hopefully a member residing near your area will advise you further. This would be best done in your individual forum.

I have decided to add some guideline information based on members feedback from northern location. I will keep adding to this as more information comes in.

Edmonton: 110 with a 20'' dish
Far Northwest British Columbia - 110 with a 31'' dish
Chesterfield Inlet- Nunavut NWT - 119 with a 39'' dish
Newfoundland: 110 with 39'' dish

Intallation Tip:

To make certain that your dish is 100% focused on the satellite, apply the following test. With you hand, put a little pressure on top, bottom, left and right hand side of the dish. If your dish is focused correctly, then you should see the signal drop in the meter with each movement. If the meter increased with any of these tests, then you must further adjust your dish.

Information for skew adjustments for 2 lnb's:

When looking from behind the dish, the lnb to the left is going to be focusing on DN 119 and the one on the right will be focusing on DN 110.
Because of the size of the continent the skew for the eastern sector will be opposite to the western sector. A simple guideline is...the satellite which is geographically closer to your area is the going to be the higher side of your setup.

Examples:
In the east the 110 refelective side of your dish will be higher and in the west the 119 reflective side will be higher.

Important:
Make certain to load the very latest DN bin file for your receiver. BEV has not released a new ECM for many weeks, so your BEV bin will not work.

Autoroll:
For those of you who have been watching BEV only, make certain that you change the Autoroll setting from BEV to DN or ALL.

Antenna Setup Settings:
All settings for DN 110 and 119 will be the same as you are using for BEV 91, with one exception. On DN 119, when you are tuning for setup, change the TP Frequency to 12239.

Scanning:
Only autoscan or power scan your satellites. Do not blind scan.
When setting up for multiple satellites it is always advisable that you scan each satellite individually.
